Is there a way to limit the calls that the module does per minute?

Whenever I have high traffic the module stops working and I receive this error:

Your OpenWeatherMap API key XXXXXX is temporary blocked due to the continual sufficient exceeding of the calls per minute limit by performing 581 requests within a minute but the limit for the Free account is 60 rpm.

The restriction is placed by OpenWeatherMap. You can upgrade their plan to get more more API calls.

I'm aware of that.

My question is if there is a way the module itself to have a limit per minute for api calls. There is no point on making 581 calls per minute since i display only 1 city only with current temperature.
