I use com_contact as an address book for our club. Why I don't use com_user? Because we have many old, children and former members for whom I don't want to maintain an access to the site that they never use. My question now is if you could imagine to support com_contact as a source? Since the address book changes all the time, it should always be up to date and it should be possible to filter through the fields.

TF Mail stores subscribers in com_users only. In Joomla, you can connect com_contact and com_users.

You can use com_users and disable the login system. There is also option to export users from com_contact and then import to com_users.

Yes, you can filter users based on their custom fields.
